Running north from Los Angeles Plaza Park, traffic-free Olvera Street is Christine Sterling’s pseudo-Mexican village market, comprising about 30 old-looking buildings that opened back in 1930. Taken over for numerous festivals throughout the year, the street is at its best on such communal occasions, and regularly features strolling mariachi bands, Aztec- and Mexican-themed processions, and various dancers and artisans. It’s also the best place for lunch or a snack; sit down restaurants La Luz Del Dia and El Paseo Inn are excellent, but it’s hard to resist the humble taco stand Cielito Lindo, see 1 [map], for atmosphere.
